University of Kansas Women’s Volleyball Signs Four Promising Recruits

Michael D. Schoenfeldt is a husband, father, brother, and son with many interests and hobbies., and lives in the Kansas City Metro area. When he is relaxing Michael D. Schoenfeldt enjoys following the University of Kansas athletics.

Recently the Jayhawks announced four quality recruits signed for its women’s volleyball squad. Head coach Ray Bechard said all four could make an immediate contribution to the team, which finished the 2021 season with an 18–12 record and made it to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Katie Dalton
A 6-foot-1-inch standout from Chaparral High School in Parker, Colorado, Dalton will play in the setter position. (The setter runs the offense, much like a quarterback.) A first team All-American, she is a member of a volleyball family, as two of her sisters also play.

Brynn Kirsch
Kirsch (5 feet 8 inches) is one of two players tapped for the libero position, specializing in defense. Coming from Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, she placed twice on the all-state team and set a school record for aces.

Molly McCarthy
The other incoming libero at 5 feet 11 inches, McCarthy also excelled at basketball in high school. A graduate of Palm Desert in Rancho Mirage, California, she was a volleyball state finalist in 2019. Coach Bechard describes her as a player who brings out the best in her teammates.

Rhian Swanson
Another dual competitor, six-foot Swanson also was on the track and field team of McPherson High School in McPherson, Kansas. Twice named most valuable player in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League, Swanson will contribute as an outside hitter, the main offensive player.
